Description

Raleigh, NC- State of North Carolina 5¢ Jan. 1, 1863 Cr. 148 21 Subject Uncut Sheet
This is an example of a full uncut sheet of this Criswell number. A full sheet is 21 notes made up of three vertical rows of seven notes each, plate letters A - U. In A Guide Book of Southern States Currency , Hugh Shull gives this uncut sheet a rarity rating of 10 which translates to a surviving population of only five to fifteen and a value of "very rare." In fact this denomination in uncut sheet form is the rarest of the North Carolina state fractional notes. The notes of this sheet are all serial number "41." The sheet shows a little handling, ink erosion, and a couple of edge tears with the longest being approximately two inches. This is truly a great North Carolina Civil War item. In September 2009 we sold an almost identical example (except that it had stamp hinge repairs) for $1495. About Uncirculated.
