Gettysburg, PA- Bank of Gettysburg $5 18__ as G32 Proof PMG Choice Uncirculated 63 EPQ.
The Bank of Gettysburg was organized in 1814 and remained in business until becoming the Gettysburg National Bank in 1864. The note has a vignette of a Native American family and a teacher with her students around the Pennsylvania coat of arms flanked by two cameo-like medallion head portraits in the end panels. A small hay wagon vignette is at bottom center. The note is printed on India paper mounted on cardstock with the usual POCs in the signature lines. There were thirty-one examples of this note in the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale. A popular note due to its hometown connection to the Civil War.
