Description

(Clearfield, PA)- (Treasurer of the) County of Clearfield $1 18__ (ca. 1859) Hoober 68-4 Remainder PMG Very Fine 30.
Based on dates seen on two different issued notes, a $1 and a $2, these notes were in use circa 1859. The $1 note design features a hunter reloading his rifle with a dead deer at his feet at left and a small rendition of the Pennsylvania coat of arms at top center. A large ONE appears in an end panel at right. The note is printed in purple ink, with PMG mentioning a tear which is not blatantly obvious through the holder. This note is quite rare, with this being only the second $1 we are aware of in any form.
