Description

(Unknown Location / Macon?), MS- State of Mississippi $100 186_ Cr. 49A Remainder PMG About Uncirculated 53.
The State of Mississippi commissioned J.T. Paterson & Co. of Augusta to print this last issuance of state notes sometime in 1865. Documents which give information about this issuance are scant, but based off genuinely issued $50s from this series, we can infer that emission was intended to occur sometime in April 1865, mere weeks before the end of the war. The vignette at center on the face, a depiction of the harbor located at Wilmington, NC, was repurposed by the printer for use on this note, as it was also employed on the Cr. 123 and Cr. 123A State of North Carolina $5 designs (also produced by J.T. Paterson & Co.). This more elusive state note is bested in grade by just one example at PMG, according to the PMG Population Report.
