Description

Brooklyn, NY- City Bank of Brooklyn $2 May 20, 1861 G4d PMG Fine 12.
The bank was incorporated in 1850 and became the National City Bank of Brooklyn in 1865. The $2 design features Ceres or Proserpina seated at center. The state bank department die appears across the left end while a farm girl holding a long handled rake is at right. A large red TWO protector completes the design. This is a later plate that has both the predecessor Rawdon, Wright, Hatch & Edson imprint and the ABNCo monogram indicating that the plate had been repaired or retouched during or after 1858.
