Very Rare Bank of Vicksburg $10 Branch Style
Vicksburg, MS- Bank of Vicksburg $10 18__ UNL Kraus 4420p
Leggett 2 Proof PMG Fine 12.While perhaps not the prettiest Mississippi note to appear in this auction, this is certainly one of the rarest. Prior to the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale, when an uncut Proof sheet containing this $10 design gave the first evidence of its existence at least in Proof form, this design was unknown. Subsequently, a remainder appeared out of The Eric P. Newman Collection in 2015, verifying that the note had actually been printed for use. The design features a woman seated by what appears to be a tablet with engineering drawings as well as by an anvil and sledge. This vignette is flanked by two 10 counters, with a left end panel containing a large TEN and a right end panel containing the letters T - E - N superimposed on three oval cameo-like medallion heads. The note has four rather raggedly punched POCs in the signature lines, some stains, and a small piece of the lower right corner missing. On a note of this significance, these imperfections will not likely discourage bidding interest. Right now, this note is one of two Proofs known in addition to a single remainder.
