Description
Shiawassee, MI- Exchange Bank at Shiawassee $20 February 1, 1838 G14 PMG Choice Very Fine 35.This interesting note features steamship vignettes in the end panels with a scene depicting allegorical figures of Ceres seated in conversation with America. This central vignette is flanked by two eagles atop swirling clouds resembling fingerprints. The rough appearance of the vignettes is due to the printers use woodcut printing dies. PMG mentions pinholes at top center. There also appears to be some stains in the upper corners somewhat obscured by the 20 and XX counters. We have not offered this piece before, though it compares favorably to the five previously offered examples, the most recent of which was a VF example auctioned in 2015.
