Toy Store Issuer

Millersburg, KY- J.Z. Croxton 10¢ Sep. 26, 1862 Hughes UNL PMG Very Fine 25.
Joseph Zackaria Croxton, aka Jo. Z. Croxton, was a general merchandise dealer, born in 1844, who eventually focused on toys as one of his main product offerings. Newspaper advertisements in the 1870s and 1880s list offerings ranging from toys to hymn books to underwear to fireworks. It was apparent that Croxton's merchandise philosophy was "If I don't have it, you don't need it!" He passed away in 1891 at the age of 48. The note features a rendition of the Kentucky coat of arms at left and identical end panels containing the denomination expressed as a Roman numeral X. The note is fully signed and issued and is in very nice repair-free condition. This is the only example of this note that we are aware at present, last crossing the auction block for $384 in 2019.
