Description

Tallahassee, FL- State of Florida $2 Jan. 1, 1864 Cr. 39 PMG Choice Uncirculated 64 EPQ.
The State of Florida authorized this note to be issued under the Act of December 3, 1863. There were $300,000 worth of Florida Treasury Notes emitted in order to assist soldiers' families by monetary means. Our current $2 offering features a depiction of Ceres with a scythe at lower left, Justice and Ceres at upper left, a large passenger locomotive rounding a bend in the tracks at center, and a Native American at lower right. A red TWO overprint finishes the layout at bottom center. The central train illustration was also utilized by the Southern Bank Note Co. on the T5 Confederate Treasury Note of 1861. This piece is printed on paper watermarked "W.T. & Co.," and there are no meaningful condition impairments. PMG has granted the EPQ designation for original paper surfaces. In September 2024, we auctioned a PMG 64 example which realized $432.
