Description

Charlotte, NC- Bank of Mecklenburg $5 Post Note Apr. 4, 1874 PMG Very Fine 25.
The bank was chartered in 1871 and remained in business until it suspended and was placed in receivership on August 7, 1875. The note features a center vignette of two young women flanked by others of workers unloading a cotton bale from a wagon on a wharf at left and workers moving a large hogshead on a wharf at right. A decorative green back completes the design of this ABNCo product. The note has seen moderate time in circulation but is repair-free, fully issued, and without any meaningful impairments. While we have offered a number of $1s and $2s on this post-war bank, this is the first $5 without an imprinted revenue stamp that we have offered in two decades. At present, we are aware of just three examples of this variety.
