Printer's Model

Hackettstown, NJ- Hackettstown Bank $1 18__ as G2 Printer's Model PCGS Banknote Choice Unc 64 Details.
The bank was organized in 1855 and remained in business until succeeded by the Hackettstown National Bank which was chartered on June 10, 1865. This is a very interesting and, by definition, unique piece. During the development or refinement of the design for the $1, the bank note designers experimented with several aspects of the layout. In this case, the basic design elements remained unchanged from the design actually used for production, but green, rather than black 1 denominational counters were substituted and pasted on the layout. The text PRESIDENT, DIRECTORS, AND STOCKHOLDERS PERSONALLY RESPONSIBLE was not yet added, and the state coat of arms was also pasted on the design (although its location appears to be unchanged from that seen on later notes). The layout of the flourishes in the area of the state coat of arms is completely different from that used on both the known $1 Proofs and an observed issued $1. Pieces like this printer's model were almost always kept in the bank note companies' archives and seldom survive to the present day. Although this example, mounted on card with four small POCs in the signature lines, has some glue and damp stains, it is a happy exception and will be an important addition to any New Jersey or security printing collection. Astute collectors will act to seize this rare opportunity.
