Description

New Orleans, LA- City of New Orleans $3 Oct. 1, 1861 PMG Very Good 10.
The city of New Orleans made numerous municipal issues before, during, and after the city's capture by Union forces at the end of April 1862. This $3, which incorporates the train vignette that was soon to be used on T40 $100 CSA Treasury Notes as well as a large oval female portrait and a large green THREE protector, was printed on the back of a sheet of Bank of Pensacola notes payable at the Bank of the United States that were never issued due to the latter bank's failure to be rechartered. While this note has seen a good bit of circulation, it is actually quite nice for the issue.
