Description
Mansfield, LA- Desoto Parish $3 January 15, 1863 PMG Choice Fine 15.Printed on blue paper, this $3 features a sailing vessel at center. Hidden within the panel of lathework at left is a ballerina, and at lower center is a basket of flowers and other agricultural products. A red overprint is also included which is comprised of two "3"s flanking the central vignette as well as a large "THREE" at bottom center. Similar to the $2 example from this parish which we are also offering in this auction, the $3 presented here is excessively scarce. An example of this design and denomination has not crossed our auction block since September 2009, when a raw representative we graded Fine realized $1,035. PMG comments on several well executed repairs which do not detract from the note's eye appeal or great rarity.
