Charleston, SC- Planters & Mechanics Bank of South Carolina $50 18__ as G38 as Sheheen 340 Proof About Uncirculated.Four examples of this design were part of Lot the ABNCo Archives holdings that were dispersed in 1990 (lot 1844). Oval portraits of Langdon Cheves, William Penn, and Richard Rush accompany an allegorical vignette depicting Liberty, Justice, and Mercury surrounding a large 5. As the description for Lot 1844 details, this example had two portraits cut out, with the next owner making copies of the missing portraits and placing them on the cardstock so as to have a "complete" note. One of this note's unmolested sheetmates sold for $1020 in our 2020 FUN Currency Signature Auction.
