Description

Pittsburgh, PA- Exchange Bank of Pittsburgh $1 May 15, 1841 G60 PMG Very Fine 30, HC.
This was part of an 1841 Relief Note issue, designed to aid the state's precarious financial position. The design features the state coat of arms as well as an oval portrait of Fulton at right, and an allegorical woman at left. PMG states that this example has been hammer cancelled. Haxby lists this note only in Proof form. The location for this bank is incorrect on the PMG label. This ace is from the parent bank in Pittsburgh, not from its only branch of Hollidaysburg.
