Land Deed Batavia, Genesee County, NY- Nov. 13, 1838 Not Graded.
A deed with attached accompanying papers from 1828. One name we see is that of Benjamin Pringle (1807-87). Mr. Pringle was a president of a bank in Batavia. He would go on to serve as a judge in the Genesee County Court during the years of 1841-46. He served in the US House of Representatives first as a member of the Whig Party in 1853-55 and was re-elected as a member of the Opposition Party from 1855-57. His next political stop was as a member of the New York State Assembly in 1862. Pringle was appointed by President Abraham Lincoln in 1863 as a judge of the court of arbitration in Cape Town, Cape Colony under the treaty with Great Britain of April 7, 1862 for the suppression of the African slave trade. This item is not graded, but has some ink staining, toning, and large edge and internal tears. There will be no returns on this lot for any reason.
