Jefferson City, MO- State of Missouri (Secessionist) $1 Apr. 12, 1862 Cr. 18 PMG Choice Uncirculated 64.Most authorities believe that notes from this emission, characterized as "Defence Bonds," were never issued. Printed by Keatinge & Ball, Columbia, SC, these notes were printed long after the secessionist state government has fled Jefferson City at the beginning of the war. This means that if they were issued, these notes would have been paid out "from the back of a horse" as the secessionist state government roamed around the state with Confederate forces.
