Description

Philadelphia, PA- Bank of Pennsylvania $50 18__ G190d PMG Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ.
The bank was organized as one of the nation's first post-colonial era commercial banks in 1794 and remained in business until 1842 when it closed briefly, only to re-open a year later in 1843. The bank finally failed during the Panic of 1857. The $50 design is quite striking, printed in dark blue with an ochre overall tint and orange and white FIFTY protector. The coat of arms of Pennsylvania appears at center flanked by two oval male portraits. The note is printed on India paper and has the usual small POCs in the signature lines. One sheet of four $50 notes of this design appeared in the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale.
