Bismark, ND- North Dakota's Golden Jubilee Committee 1 Wooden Nickel; 2 Wooden Nickels August 21-25, 1939 As Made Condition;Fargo, ND- Fargorama Diamond Jubilee 2 Wooden Nickels June 4-10, 1950 As Made Condition;
Plaza, ND- Simonson & Ames at First National Bank of Plaza, ND 1/2¢; 1¢; 1-1/2¢; 2¢; 4¢ (2); 20¢; 50¢ ND (ca. 1913-1931) Very Fine or Better.
Simonson & Ames was incorporated in 1913, primarily operating as a general merchandise mercantile business. As a way of stimulating cash sales the firm participated in a program that offered discounts on such sales. The discounts took the form of "savings checks" which could be accumulated and deposited in the First National Bank of Plaza when presented in sums of $1.00. The bank paid interest on the savings account created to receive these checks. A large number of odd denomination pieces are part of this selection. The First National Bank of Plaza was placed in receivership on August 8, 1931, perhaps taking a few of these savings accounts with it. (Total: 11 notes)
