Description

(Charleston), SC- Bank of the State of South Carolina 6-1/4¢ Mar. 1, 1821 G4 Sheheen 463 PMG Very Fine 20.
During its early existence, the bank issued several series of fractional notes between 1815 and 1831 to provide a means of making change in day to day commerce. This denomination from the second emission features a dog vignette and was printed by Murray, Draper, Fairman & Co. Fractional notes for all locations of the bank were signed by R. Yeadon. While this note has seen time in circulation it is still fully intact with no repairs and only a bit of ink erosion in Yeadon's signature. This is only one of two known examples to us and is listed as R-7 (2-4 known) in the Sheheen catalog.
