Description

Baltimore, MD - Second Presbyterian Church Lottery Ticket $6 ND (ca. early 1800s) PMG Extremely Fine 40.
The Presbyterian Church in Baltimore had grown to such a number that by 1790 application was made for a Second Presbyterian Church to be formed in the eastern part of the city. In 1803, John Glendy was officially installed as pastor of the new church. A new church building was to be constructed and funds were raised through subscription, pew rentals, and lottery. This lottery raised $7,411 toward the more than $35,000 construction costs. Signed and numbered in black ink by James Sloan. A very scarce early lottery ticket.
