Description
Portugal Banco de Portugal 500 Escudos 17.11.1922 Pick 130 PMG About Uncirculated 50.An always popular type, due to its infamous history. Con artist Alves Reis forged a bank order to British printer Waterlow & Sons to print an additional batch of this high denomination banknote without the Banco de Portugal's knowledge. Once this fraud became known, this denomination was quickly withdrawn. This example is barely circulated and just has some storage staining. Fifth signature for the type: José Caetano Lobo d'Avila da Silva Lima. Historically interesting.
