64.This incredible, interesting, and virtually unique offering is seldom seen in the collectibles marketplace. This enormous denomination is not intended for the general public. The British Government would issue these notes twice a week in order to manage its short-term borrowing policy, providing financial security in case of a cash shortfall. These Treasury Bills ranged in maturities from one month all the way to twelve months.
Physical Treasury Bills are now a concept of the past and are no longer printed. The system is now operated by the Debt Management Office, which is an Executive Agency of the Treasury. It appears that this example is only available due to the fact that it has been stamped cancelled. The serial number 012831 indicates that this "old fashioned" financial tool was still used behind the scenes in the United Kingdom. The last of the Treasury Bills were printed in September of 2003, so this example was printed less than a month before physical copies ceased to be printed. An important opportunity to acquire a seriously rare and interesting Treasury Bill.
