Malaysia Constantinople Estate 1 Dollar 1878 Pick UNL KNB3 JPP3 PMG Choice Very Fine 35.
An extremely rare local note for Johor issued during the era of Tuan Syed Muhammad bin Ahmad Alsagoff. This a museum quality note that is virtually unseen in private hands. We have not previously offered any denomination from this issuer. Perhaps four different denominations were emitted in this 1878 series, of which this is the second highest. An embossed seal and distinctive watermark are clearly visible against the thin laid paper despite the circulated condition. The thin paper allows the printed, stamped, and signed ink from the front to show through on the back where there is also a curious, small, diamond-shaped rhombus stamped at the center of the note. Interesting, very rare, and definitely missing from many advanced Asian and World collections.
