Description
High-Grade $20 Hawaii Star Note
Fr. 2305* $20 1934A Hawaii Federal Reserve Star Note. PMG Choice
Uncirculated 63.Seventy-nine examples of Fr. 2305* are listed in Track & Price. Only three of those notes weigh in as Uncirculated, with two pieces being third party graded 64 notes. The third piece is the example in this lot, serial L00862402*. The Hawaii notes were first issued in June 1942 in the Territory of Hawaii along with the islands of Midway, Johnston, and Palmyra. These emergency notes were a protective financial measure against a possible invasion by the Japanese. After July 15, 1942, no other United States paper money could be held or used on these islands without a special license that was obtainable through the office of the governor of the Territory of Hawaii. The governor at this time was Joseph B. Poindexter from March 1934 to August 1942. The first proclamations concerning series of Hawaii notes were made in Poindexter's name and in the name of the military governor of the islands, Lieutenant General Delos C. Emmons. All restrictions for possessing non-Hawaii notes were removed on October 21, 1944.
