Highest Graded PCGS Banknote Fr. 1609*
Fr. 1609* $1 1935A R Silver Certificate Star. PCGS Banknote Gem
Unc 65 PPQ.The first auction appearance for this well preserved Experimental star. It raises the Track & Price Census to only 36 serial numbers enumerated out of a printing of 12,000. A meager two of those 36 pieces in T&P are graded higher than the example in this lot. Also, a look at PCGS Banknote verification tells us that this is the highest graded Fr. 1609* with no equals that they have encountered. The last example that we auctioned at this third party grade level realized $17,272 on an estimate of $15,000-$20,000 in April 2017. The paper money market has only strengthened since then for high grade rarities. This should be reflected in the winning bid when the gavel falls.
