Only $50 Silver Proof Front & Back Pair Known
Fr. 331 Hessler 1024 $50 1891 Silver Certificate Face and Back
Proofs PCGS Banknote Gem Unc 66 PPQ; Choice Unc 64.Only the second time that this Proof pair has gone under the gavel with the first time being when The Caine Collection was auctioned in 2018. Our inspection finds a well preserved plate letter B Face Proof printed on India paper and then mounted on cardstock. Serial number E00000 is printed twice in blue ink. The Back Proof is also printed on India paper and mounted on cardstock. It has a minor surface damage patch at the top of the unprinted area at left. Hessler 1024 has a population of only one Face and Back Proof as listed on page 95 of Hessler's second edition. The only other known $50 Silver Proof that we can find is of a Fr. 330 face that lacks both a serial number and a back. That makes our current offering the only complete $50 Silver Proof with two sides. (Total: 2 notes)
