Fr. 226 $1 1899 Silver Certificate Uncut Sheet PMG Choice
Extremely Fine 45.An uncut sheet from the very first Friedberg number and block for Black Eagles. This first Black Eagle block did not have any letters at the beginning or ending of the serial number. However, the same printer's embellishment mark was used at both ends of the serial number for Fr. 226. Also, the first Black Eagles, consisting of Friedberg numbers 226 and 226a, used a lighter blue ink for their third printings than the later Friedberg numbers of the design. This example has retained all of its selvage, as both face plate number 8656 and back plate number 8617 remain in the untrimmed bottom selvage. Four complete paper guide arrows remain in the top and bottom selvage, too. This cherished sheet was once mounted, resulting in the splits, paper pull, and minor foreign substance comments on the third party back label. Even so, it still remains both an elusive and an interesting uncut sheet.
