Description
Fr. 205 $500 1863 Proof - Only Known Example - Unknown in Issued Form
Fr. 205 $500 1863 Interest Bearing Note Proof PCGS Very Choice
New 64.The only known example of this design in issued or Proof form is offered here. The Front and Back Proofs are printed on India paper and mounted to a large piece of cardstock measuring approximately 13 by 9.5 inches. All three coupons for this two year Interest Bearing $500 are present. The Liberty with flag and anchor and eagle at nest vignettes were first described for the collecting community in George H. Blake's 1908 reference, United States Paper Money: A Reference List of Paper Money, Including Fractional Currency, Issued Since 1861. This was the very first paper money reference. However, an example in any form was not offered until 2018 when our consignor acquired this lovely example. It has since served as the plate note for the Friedberg reference starting with the 22nd edition in 2021. Chittenden and Spinner's signatures are engraved on this ABNCo printed $500 D-note that is also from plate letter D. Two POCs are found in each signature, but they only penetrate the front of the note and not the cardstock. A one of a kind magestic item that would certainly be hard to beat.
