Richmond $5,000 PMG 63
Fr. 2221-E $5,000 1934 Federal Reserve Note. PMG Choice
Uncirculated 63.The PMG Population Report states that they have graded 15 examples with just one Fr. 2221-E graded equal and two graded higher. The example in this lot is encapsulated in a comment free holder. It presents well even if it does have a light printing of its light green ink overprint. This Richmond example's first and last recorded auction appearance occurred in 2015 when it realized $176,250. Since then prices have only gone up for the exalted $5,000 denomination. Our latest Uncirculated offering of a 1934 $5,000 was a St. Louis PMG 64 EPQ piece that realized $312,000 at our January 2025 FUN auction. Tonight's offering should make a serious run at that earlier result.
