Description
Sole Highest Graded Example in Both T&P and the PMG Population Report
Fr. 2220-F $5,000 1928 Federal Reserve Note. PMG Choice
Extremely Fine 45.We originally offered this Atlanta $5,000 with serial number F00000204A as lot 16598 in our auction of The Taylor Family Collection in February 2005. The two major grading services of the time had just opened their doors for business the month before, therefore, no notes were encapsulated and we were able to examine this lightly circulated example in hand. It had a nicely repaired minor split in the bottom margin, but the color and appearance were excellent and the same is true today. Track & Price lists eight serial numbers for Fr. 2220-F and the PMG Population Report lists seven that they have examined. In both cases, the piece in this lot is the sole highest graded example. The last Atlanta 1928 $5,000 that crossed the auction block was offered by us. It graded PMG VF 30 EPQ and realized $360,000 in January 2024. The example in this lot should do as well, if not better.
