Description

Brilliantly Colored and Strictly Original 1886 Two Dollar Silver Certificate

Fr. 242 $2 1886 Silver Certificate PMG Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ.
This brilliantly colored Hancock Deuce comes from one of the two serial number runs that has supplied generations of collectors with high grade examples of this pretty type. While Hancock is no longer as well remembered as many of the other Civil War generals, he played an extremely important role, particularly on the third day of Gettysburg. Post-war, he ran for President and was narrowly defeated by James Garfield. If memory serves, this was the only presidential election where two Civil War veterans ran against each other. This near-Superb example, which last crossed the auction block in our 2002 FUN auction, has received the superlatives "Exceptional Paper Quality, Great Embossing & Color" from PMG.
