Gem 66 EPQ Fr. 215 Ace
Fr. 215 $1 1886 Silver Certificate PMG Gem Uncirculated 66
EPQ.A well margined Martha that is also accurately centered within balanced margins. It also extols the virtue of paper originality that earned it the EPQ grade modifier. PMG has not graded a single Fr. 215 higher, and for the entire Ornate Back Martha design (Fr. 215-21), PMG has graded only two examples higher. We can find only one auction appearance for the lovely piece in this lot, and that occurred in the Steve Ivy May 1983 auction as lot 2982. It was graded Gem CU then and has been beautifully preserved before and since crossing the auction block. Recent history leads us to the fact that the last PMG 66 EPQ Fr. 215 example to appear at auction was in 2020, and it realized $4,320. This quality ace could outdistance that figure when all is said and done.
