Description

Fr. 214 $10 1879 Refunding Certificate PMG Very Fine 30.
An attractive, mid-grade example of this unusual-sized Refunding Certificate, these were really circulating bonds for the average person that could be purchased through the Post Office. Banks also put them aside in order to earn the interest. The interest was capped by Congress in 1907 and their value set at $21.30 each. At that time, there was no longer a need to hold onto them and most all were redeemed. This example has solid paper and nice margins with PMG just mentioning a closed pinhole.
