Stunning Fr. 122 $10 Bison

Fr. 122 $10 1901 Legal Tender PMG Superb Gem Unc 67 EPQ.
An extremely beautiful $10 Legal that made its numismatic debut on a 1993 fixed price list. Next, it was a part of our September 1997 Cincinnati auction, where we graded it as Superb Gem New. Our consignor held on to it for over 25 years before consigning it once again to us. This Bison could serve as the benchmark by which other candidates for the 67 grade could be measured. The margins are broad with the back centering fully equal to that of the face. The colors are intense and the original embossing is obvious at even a quick glance. It has made a trip to PMG since that initial auction appearance, and their Population Report reveals that they have graded only three other Fr. 122 examples equal, and none higher, out of 2,026 examples submitted. A closer look at all Friedberg numbers for the design shows PMG has not graded a single example of the Bison design higher. In fact, the last Bison we auctioned at the PMG 67 EPQ grade was a Fr. 114 that realized $26,400 in January 2021. The stunning Fr. 122 in this lot has a good chance at surpassing that amount.
