Description
Always Popular Large Size $1,000 Federal Reserve Note
Fr. 1133-B $1,000 1918 Federal Reserve Note PMG Fine 12.Despite having the largest print run for any district (still a dismal 124,800 notes), the percentage of surviving New York $1,000s is far lower than other districts. Fewer survivors are known in total than even San Francisco examples, of which 22,000 notes were printed and issued. Robust banking and trade in New York City no doubt affected attrition rates. This piece, which is crossing the auction block for the first time, is one of just 33 examples reported. It displays just plenty of honest wear and has managed to avoid splits, tears, and other problems that can afflict well circulated notes. Our most recent offering of this number in this grade range occurred in 2016 when we sold an impaired PCGS Apparent Fine 12 example for $10,575.
