Description

Rare Large Brown Seal 1886 Twenty Dollar Silver Certificate

Fr. 315 $20 1886 Silver Certificate PMG Very Fine 25.
The Series 1886 $20 Silver Certificate was undoubtedly authorized as a memorial of sorts for Secretary of the Treasury Daniel Manning who served as Secretary of the Treasury from 1885 until a few months before his death in December 1887. The portrait of Manning is flanked by classic allegorical figures representing Agriculture and Industry. This later release, which has a striking large brown spiked Treasury seal, was issued in the early 1890s. This note is evenly circulated and still retains good color and great margins, with no repairs or condition issues. One of just 28 pieces in the latest census, it would be a truly great addition to many type note sets. In our 2020 ANA auction, we sold another PMG 25 example for $9,000.
