40.A fantastic new discovery from the Green Mountain State as this is just the sixth serial number 1 Red Seal to be reported and only the second that we have been able to offer in over 30 years. It joins three number 1 Red Seals reported from a Brattleboro bank as well as single examples from Fairhaven and North Bennington. However, those latter two pieces have not made a public appearance in over twenty years, leaving very few options for today's collectors. This "A" position offering is a quite lovely note with great color and dark signatures. If not for a small edge tear and a few tiny pinholes, this well embossed $5 would have likely received the PPQ designation from PCGS. A great note that will be a source of pride to one lucky bidder tonight
