Description
Offset Printing Error Fr. 1977-I $5 1981A Federal Reserve Note. PMG Choice Uncirculated 64 EPQ;Printed Fold Error Fr. 1977-I $5 1981A Federal Reserve Note. PMG Choice Uncirculated 63 EPQ.
A pair of consecutive notes and therefore from two consecutive sheets with each note being of a different error type. The BEP cuts printed sheets of 32 into 16 note half sheets for overprinting. Then the overprint with the serial number is printed in descending order so that the half sheets will stack in the correct numeric order. Both of these notes are from the A1 position in the upper left corner of the sheet and both received perfect printings of the back and face. The sheet with the highest serial number, 00022496, picked up a large fold at left after the face printing, which is the second printing, but before the overprint printing, which is the third printing. This allowed a partial printing of the overprint on the folded over back consisting of a slice of the Treasury seal and six characters of the serial number. Next, the other note with serial 00022495 got its normal overprint, but it acquired on its back an offset of the remainder of the Treasury seal and the remaining complete four characters of the serial number. Next, the sheet unfolded, so when the sheet was cut into individual notes, serial 00022496 got the correct cut. The collecting community is fortunate that both of these notes were found and put aside before they reached circulation. Different error types on consecutive notes is seldom encountered. (Total: 2 notes)
