Description

One of Two Notes Reported

Salem, NY - $5 1882 Brown Back Fr. 467 The First National Bank Ch. # 3309 PMG Very Fine 25.
A prohibitively rare Washington County bank which issued Brown Backs only until the expiration of its charter in 1905 is represented in this lot. This institution had succeeded Charter 1127 in 1885 and, in turn, was liquidated and reorganized as Charter 7588 in 1905. This offering is one of just two notes, both $5s, reported from this charter, and is the finer of the pair as the other known example is housed in a PCGS Apparent Very Fine 20 holder. It features excellent color, dark pen signatures, and just problem-free wear.
