Unique for Town - Three Forks Montana Large Size
A Western National Bank Trophy Note

Three Forks, MT - $10 1902 Plain Back Fr. 626 The First National Bank Ch. # (W)9337 PCGS Banknote Very Fine 30 Details.
The allure of the American West is captured in the history of Three Forks. Named for the Jefferson, Madison, and Gallatin rivers that join to form the Missouri River, this site was the location that Sacagawea was captured by the Mennetaree tribe, and later served as the interpreter for the Lewis & Clark Expedition. It was Meriweather Lewis that named the three "streams" here after Presidents and Secretaries of the Treasury.

Three Forks is a tiny community, with this lone National Bank issuing barely $50,000 in Nationals over fourteen years of operation. Only Series 1902 Plain Backs and Date Backs were issued before liquidate in 1923. To date, this remains one of the ultimate Montana rarities. Of the 125 National Banks that issued notes in Montana, 12 are unreported and 14 are Unique for the bank. With 20% of the state difficult to impossible to locate, this note is headed for a top collection of either the finest of Montana collections, or a collection replete with trophies from across the West and the country.
