Very Rare Bethel, ME Small Size - Finest of Four Reported
Bethel, ME - $10 1929 Ty. 1 The Bethel National Bank Ch. # 7613
PMG About Uncirculated 55.This lovely note is easily the finest of four small size reported from this very rare Maine bank. It was the only note-issuing bank that operated in this remote mountain locale that had just $9,900 outstanding in both large and small size in 1935. It is a bright and fresh note with wonderful color and only light handling. Based upon the skewed position of its serial numbers, it also has the distinction of being from a replacement sheet. Close observation also reveals that the "C" prefix letter in each serial number was printed in a different font. Two years ago, we auctioned another $10 from this always popular charter, in a PMG 25 holder, for $6,000.
