Serial Number 1 Freeport Red Seal - Ex: Grinnell

Serial Number 1 Freeport, NY - $5 1902 Red Seal Fr. 587 The First National Bank Ch. # (E)7703 PCGS Banknote About Unc 55 Details.
A high-grade Serial Number 1 Red Seal from a popular Nassau County bank, this piece traces its provenance to The Albert Grinnell Collection. This offering was once part of an uncut Number 1 sheet that appeared as Lot 1459 in Barney Bluestone's sale of the Grinnell collection in 1945. Over three decades ago, the sheet was cut, providing collectors the opportunity to acquire a single Number 1 Red Seal from this Long Island charter. This is the "C" position note from the sheet and it was acquired by our consignor in a 1998 auction. While it never really circulated and retains bold ink colors and dark pen signatures, it did suffer some damage over the years and does have an edge tear and a partially rebuilt margin. Nonetheless, it retains great eye appeal and is a rare Serial Number 1 Red Seal from New York's Long Island region.
