Description

Beautiful Monument NB of Charlestown Brown Back

Charlestown, MA - $5 1882 Brown Back Fr. 467 The Monument National Bank Ch. # 1005 PCGS Banknote Choice AU 58 PPQ.
This gorgeous note comes from a rare Massachusetts bank that issued First Charters and Brown Backs only before liquidating in 1905. The census for this tough charter lists only six pieces, four of which are high grade 1875 $10s from the same cut sheet. The other two are $5 Brown Backs, including this note, both of which are, coincidentally, from the same sheet. However, of that pair, this offering is the only one to have ever appeared at public sale. It is a real peach of a note that made its last appearance in our 2012 Central States auction. It features near perfect centering, fantastic color, gorgeous pen signatures, incredible eye appeal and great historical significance, as its title memorializes the Bunker Hill monument in Charlestown.
