Chelsea, VT - $1 1875 Fr. 386 The First National Bank Ch. # 2120 PMG Fine 12.An excessively rare Vermont bank with this ace being the only note on this Orange County bank to appear at auction in the last 75 years. The First National was a First Charter only institution opening its doors in 1873 and then liquidating in 1893 at the expiration of its 20 year charter. At that point, it was succeeded by charter number 4929. Only two notes have been enumerated on this charter number; the note in this lot and a 1875 $5 graded Good that was Lot 3160 in Barney Bluestone's sale of the fabled Albert Grinnell Collection in March 1946. That example has not appeared on the public scene since then. Nonetheless, the collectors of today have an opportunity to add this rare charter to their holdings. This $1 has seen its share of circulation and the margins are a bit tight, but its overall appearance is quite pleasing with good color and a legible pen signature of Cashier J(ohn) C. Clark.
