Excessively Rare Florida First Charter Note - The Finest Known

Pensacola, FL - $5 1875 Fr. 404 The First National Bank Ch. # 2490 PMG Choice Extremely Fine 45.
This wonderful new discovery is just the fourth First Charter note to be reported for the state of Florida - all the reported notes come from this Pensacola bank which opened its doors in 1880. The bank issued only Series 1875 $5s for the First Charter Period and, prior to this evening, just three examples had been reported, none of which have been publicly offered since 1976. That all changes with the surfacing of this attractive pen-signed example that has represented a "holy grail" for decades for the many Sunshine State collectors. Easily the finest of the now four known First Charter notes from here, it is a crisp, nicely margined piece with excellent color and dark signatures. PMG has added a comment about minor stains which are indeed trivial and affect nothing on a note of this caliber. If you desire, and can afford, the best, this will certainly be a highlight of your collection.
