Description
Serial Number 1 Oceanside Date Back - One of Just Three Notes Reported
Serial Number 1 Oceanside, CA - $5 1902 Date Back Fr. 591 The
First National Bank Ch. # (P)8069 PMG Fine 12.This is another great California rarity that is one of only three pieces reported from this very rare San Diego area issuer that was closed by the receiver in 1933. Of the three notes in the census, one is a $10 Date Back, a raw Fine, that sold at auction for over $15,000 in 2018 while the other two are $5 Date Backs, neither of which has ever appeared at public sale. This offering is one of those two $5s and, while well circulated, it is a most appealing Serial Number 1 example. Most likely carried as a treasured wallet piece, it has sustained plenty of wear, but retains decent color. Hard to estimate due to the amount of wear, but it is nonetheless a Number 1 note from a very rare and seldom offered bank.
