Description

Richmond, VA- "Southern Independent Bank" - A Weill 12-1/2¢ Mar. 25, 1862 Jones-Littlefield PR60-914 PMG Very Fine 20.
The Southern Independent Bank title does not refer to an actual bank. It has been verified that A, Weill was a dry goods merchant in business at the location specified on the note ca. 1862. The note features a well done vignette of a steamer at center. PMG mentions pinholes and an edge tear which are not glaringly obvious and have little impact on this rare note's desirability. Jones estimated 2-4 surviving examples which still seems about right. This is our first offering of this rare note.
