Scarce and Attractive Fr. 1196 $50 1882 Gold Certificate
Fr. 1196 $50 1882 Gold Certificate PMG Very Fine 30.This Fr. 1196 Vernon-McClung signature combination is also a scarce 1882 $50 Friedberg number. Only 33 are documented in Track & Price, including the present example, and it has no auction records for the three decades following Mike's private acquisition in 1991.The circulation is moderate, and the note is problem-free. Face margins are clear all around and the contrasting red and gold colors are bold. The back color is lovely for the grade. We sold a PMG Very Fine 35 for $7,800 in August 2020. Although not quite as sharp as that example, this is a premium note for its assigned grade and will sell for multiples of its 1991 acquisition cost.
