Description

J. WHATMAN 1862 Watermark

T41 $100 1862 PF-58 Cr. 331 PMG Very Fine 30.
This J. WHATMAN 1862 watermarked variety is of the highest rarity, with Fricke calling it "Non Collectible." In 2005, the note was considered unique (serial number 165728-W). By 2014, Fricke listed two examples, adding a second example in "Fine+" condition. Since then, we have sold a third example, bearing a military endorsement and serial number 153743-W, and are now offering this fourth known note with serial number 153533-Z. There is some possibility that the "Fine+" note is, in fact, either the third or fourth note with a difference of opinion regarding the grade. In any case, the population presently sits at three-four notes, technically out of the realm of Non Collectible but still Excessively Rare. A rare opportunity to obtain an extremely elusive variety.
